  1. #2 Explain how to solve a nonright triangle with law of sines and law of cosines

    law of sines
    (sinA)/a = (sinB)/b = (sinC)/c
formula used to solve for the components of a triangle when there is a set or pair of information given meaning a length of a side on the opposite side of a given angle.

    law of cosines
    (opposite leg)^2 = (adjacent leg)^2 + (other adjacent leg)^2 -2(adjacent leg)(adjacent leg)cos(angle between)
formula used to solve for the components of a triangle when a set or pair of information is not given.

  2. Another helpful tip:

Law of sines is always used with a problem that gives an angle and the measure of the side across from it

Law of cosines is always used with a problem that gives you two side measures and the angle between them

there are other problems where you will have to decipher whether to use law of sines or law of cosines but the two tidbits of information i gave above are the most common types of problems

dont forget area of a non right triangle is
    1/2(leg)(leg)sin(angle between)
