So this week went pretty well. I think I failed the test because I always freeze up. For the most part, I know what I am doing. I think. I have trouble with word problems, but that's just me.
- I understand graphing polynomial equations
- I don't understand finding the maximum and minimum
- I finally understand the rational root theorem
- I don't understand how to format my calculator to fit the graph of the polynomial
This is pretty much the just of my understanding of chapter two. I get pretty much all of it, I just have problems remembering what the heck I'm supposed to be doing with my calculator.
I think that I am catching on fairly well in this class, and hope to keep doing well. I'm pretty sure that I will always have at least one question about a certain subject, so expect a lot of questions from me! A good thing is that once things are explained to me, I tend to remember them. So after I have learned something, I can help someone else that isn't sure about it.
For the word problems all you really need to understand is the different math term's meanings. Once you understand the term's meanings and understand what they're asking you to do it will be a lot easier to do them.
ReplyDeletefinding max and min is a simple
ReplyDeleteits basically just a matter of calculator buttons
first though you need to solve your formatting confusion. dinidu posted an amazing help or three on how to fix your graph to see all "swoops" of the graphed equation.
after you make all swoops visible
you press the 2nd button and the trace button
scroll down to either max or min
which ever suits what youre looking for.
press enter and follow along with the calculators directions.
it will say "left" or "right"before the word "bound" use your arrow keys to move the flashing circle to the side of the swoop stated by the calculator *be sure you are placing the flashing dot on the correct swoop press enter and the calculator will then ask for the opposite direction.put the flashing dot to the stated side of the swoop again and press enter.. the calculator with then ask you to "guess" where the middle of the selected points are... so take a guess and press enter
at the bottom of your screen will be an X and a Y coordinate. this is your coordinate answer to either the max or min.. depending on what you are looking for.
The steps are the same for locating both the max and min.
so to recap in easy memorable steps
press 2nd and trace
choose max or min
go to left bound and enter
go to right bound and enter
guess where middle point is enter
record coodinates
let me know if any clarification is necessary
when you are formatting to fit the graph, you check what part of the graph u need to see. say u need to see the max and its above the screen. you would change your y max and make it bigger.
